Elementary Program Overview

For the 2024/2025 school year, HEaT will hold four instructor-led enrichment sessions and a lunch period. Younger students are placed on on our Land Crew team, while older learners are placed on the High Flyers team. Our class sizes are set at 18. Elementary students will take all classes and rotate through them with their assigned group. Course subjects change each semester. Below are the course offerings for Fall 2024.

Language Arts: America the Beautiful: Come journey with us as we study thirteen of America’s national parks. From the frozen Arctic to the scorching desert, our country’s vast wilderness does not disappoint.

Art- God is an artist! Come with us on an artistic adventure through colors, textures, and patterns found in nature. We will look closely at textures and patterns on various animals including mammals, amphibians, reptiles, insects, and birds. Plants and wildlife display an explosion of color and texture when we take the time to look carefully. Students will explore animals in books and conservation magazines to begin noticing the details of animal skin, feathers, scales, fur, and other physical features. We will talk about the specific characteristics of each animal before working on a project to portray the animal of the day. We will take a close-up look through magnifying glasses to see the intricate details woven into everyday creations we might overlook. Students will have fun using a variety of art mediums, including oil pastels, watercolor, sculpture, and colored pencils. Students will be compiling a portfolio of favorite work throughout the semester to show at the open house part of the Christmas Program. Students will have several projects the same across all grade levels (different quality expectations) and some different projects based on age.

Science- In "Exploring Chemistry", our students will be embarking on a thrilling journey into the world of chemistry. Throughout the semester, they will discover the fascinating realm of chemical reactions, explore how chemistry influences their daily experiences, and participate in hands-on experiments that promise to be both messy and entertaining, all while learning practical applications.

Physical Education-  In PE we develop muscular strength, balance, flexibility, and endurance through a variety of warm-up routines and games, all while having fun in the process. Kids are encouraged to contribute ideas and create games, as well.  We build in some free time for the kids to simply play and build relationships. Truly, PE is about so much more than just games; the kids learn to win and lose, to take turns and share, to follow directions, and to use their words to communicate thoughts and feelings healthily and wisely. This semester we will encourage students to work on great sportsmanship by setting a weekly goal to encourage another student at least twice during PE. We will continue to work on how HEaT students can be RED (Responsible, Empathetic and Diligent), especially in PE!

Lunch- Students will need to bring a nut-free lunch each week, along with a water bottle. There will be a 30 minute lunch break for students to eat and socialize.
